Summer time picnic time. There is a desire to be outdoors, to rediscover one’s territory or the place of vacation.This year even more so for the known events of the virus. Picnics also have their charm and more and more people like them. Be it sea or mountain, countryside, river, lake or swimming pool. Apart from the sea, the Mugello has all these naturalistic descriptors. So a good picnic in Mugello is an absolute duty of the tourist.
The term picnic is synonymous with the union of excellent food with the beauties of nature and good company. The word itself is English but in turn derived from French where it is written pique-nique. The words that make it up clearly highlight the two souls of the snack on the grass. Piquer, in fact, also means nibbling, nique is an archaic variant for “little thing”.
The habit of dining outdoors was established above all from the mid-seventeenth century as a break for the nobles engaged in hunting. However, it was soon appreciated also at the level of the people. In the mid-nineteenth century, picnics were fully inserted as a social activity at least in France and England.
The bourgeois celebration of the picnic is memorable in the famous painting by Édouard Manet déjeuner sur l’herbe. In English the title of the painting is usually translated as “Luncheon on the grass”. The famous painting made in 1863 is kept at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. Our picnics and barbecues will be set up on the estate of a farm where you can walk to discover the forest, the lavender plantation (surrounded by the scent of 1500 plants, in full bloom in July), the olive grove, the vegetable garden, the pond and among the animals!
Upon your arrival you will be provided with the classic picnic basket, with everything you need to lay your tablecloth to spread out on the lawn!
Once settled, you will be served a typical Tuscan picnic, based on products from the company and the territory, all at zero km.
