The 12th leg of the 100th edition of the Giro D’Italia, the most important bicycle race after the Tour De France, has passed through the Mugello. From Marradi in the Upper Mugello to Borgo San Lorenzo and San Piero a Sieve and Barberino. Where it entered the motorway to cross the Apennine range into the Emilia-Romagna region. This is not the first time for the Giro to choose the Mugello. This time it was chosen also to give homage to Gastone Nencini, “The Lion of Bilancino” winner of the Giro in 1957 and of the Tour De France in 1960.
The Mugello as the whole of Tuscany is a land blessed by cycling champs. The Mugello in particular is a real bonanza for road and MTB bike lovers alike. It has in fact a series of mountain passes whose challenging ascents are second only to those of the alps. Besides there are many hilly parts and lowland stretches that will suit any kind of bike lover.
